Login Problems
"Invalid Username or Password"
- Double-check username (email address)
- Check caps lock
- Try password reset
- Make sure you're at eforms.atf.gov (not a fake site)
Account Locked
After multiple failed login attempts, accounts lock temporarily.
- Wait 30 minutes and try again
- Or contact ATF eForms support
2FA/MFA Issues
- Check phone for text code
- Make sure phone number is correct in account
- Try "resend code" option
- Check if authenticator app time is synced
"Session Expired"
- eForms has short timeout periods
- Work quickly or save progress frequently
- Log out and back in
Upload Failures
Fingerprint Upload Failing
"Invalid File Format"
- Must be .eft file, not JPEG/PNG/PDF
- Convert your FD-258 image with SlapEFT
- Don't rename other files to .eft (doesn't work)
"File Too Large"
- EFT files from SlapEFT are properly sized
- If using another service, contact them
Upload Hangs/Timeout
- Check internet connection
- Try smaller file if possible
- Try different browser
- Try at off-peak time
Photo Upload Failing
- Must be JPEG format
- Keep under 3MB
- Passport-style (head and shoulders)
- White or light background
Site Running Slow
High Traffic Times
eForms is slowest during:
- Evenings (after work hours)
- End of month
- After major gun events/announcements
- Tax stamp changes
Best Times to Use eForms
- Early morning (5-8 AM ET)
- Late night (after 10 PM ET)
- Mid-week (Tue-Thu)
- Mid-month
Browser Optimization
- Use Chrome (best compatibility)
- Clear cache and cookies
- Disable ad blockers for ATF site
- Close other tabs
- Disable VPN if using one
Common Error Messages
"System Error - Please Try Again Later"
- ATF servers are having issues
- Wait 15-30 minutes
- Try different browser
- Your work may be saved - check drafts
"Form Validation Error"
- Missing required field
- Invalid format in a field
- Scroll through form to find red-highlighted fields
- Check dates are in correct format
"Unable to Process Request"
- Generic error - could be many causes
- Try again in a few minutes
- Try different browser
- If persistent, contact ATF
"Responsible Person Information Does Not Match"
- Name must match exactly across all documents
- Check for typos, middle name/initial differences
- SSN must match
General eForms Tips
Before You Start
- Have all documents ready (fingerprints, photo, info)
- Use Chrome browser
- Clear cache
- Stable internet connection
While Working
- Save frequently (use "Save Draft")
- Don't let session timeout
- Keep backup of all uploaded files
